Who we are

Maca ("Maca", "we", "us", or "our") provides a voice-to-text application available as a desktop app and web platform at maca.sh. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Maca, you agree to the practices described here.

Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

• Account information. When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and authentication details through our identity provider.
• Voice and transcript data. When you use Maca, we process the audio you record and the text transcripts generated from it so we can deliver the transcription and assistant features you request.
• Usage data. We collect information about how you interact with Maca, such as feature usage, word counts, and diagnostic and performance data, to operate and improve the service.
• Payment information. If you purchase a subscription, our payment processor collects and stores your billing details. We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers.
• Device and log data. We may collect technical information such as your device type, operating system, app version, and IP address.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Maca service.
• Transcribe your audio and generate the outputs you request.
• Process payments and manage your subscription.
• Communicate with you about your account, updates, and support requests.
• Monitor usage, prevent abuse, and keep the service secure.
• Comply with legal obligations.

AI and automated processing

Maca uses third-party speech recognition and large language model (LLM) providers to transcribe your audio and to power assistant features. The audio and text you submit may be sent to these providers solely to generate your results. We select providers that contractually agree not to use your content to train their models. Automated processing is central to how Maca works, and the features you choose to use determine what content is processed.

Service providers we share data with

We share data only with the service providers needed to operate Maca, and only to the extent required to deliver the service. These include:

• Authentication and account management.
• Speech-to-text and LLM processing.
• Payment processing and subscription billing.
• Cloud hosting, storage, and analytics.

Each provider is bound by agreements that limit their use of your data to providing services to us. We do not sell your personal information.

Data retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Transcripts and related content are retained according to your plan and settings, and you can delete them from within the app. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

Data security

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can manage much of your data directly in the app, or contact us to exercise these rights. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

International data transfers

We may process and store information in countries other than the one in which you live. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we take steps to ensure it receives an adequate level of protection.

Children's privacy

Maca is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the app or by email. Your continued use of Maca after an update means you accept the revised policy.
